In last week’s blog story, I wrote about a post-pandemic world full of people who have, are, or may be considering completely rewriting their narrative. I’d also commented that while this rewrite begins with the setting of intention, the next step turns to action.
And so, let’s go down this rabbit hole together.
Now, to add extra context to this week’s post, check out my first blog story of 2022 about the steps that can be so key in helping to write new chapters into existence. These include giving your intention power by sharing it with others and setting small actionable goals.
As I wrote last week, one of my goals is to do more work that gives me the opportunity to make a difference in our world. To add clarity to this goal, the word “work” has multiple meanings and I consider it inclusive of all areas of my life, professionally and personally. At its core is continuing to bring meaning into my and others’ life and giving voice to the many parts of who I am.
As I’ve thought more about this over the last week, there are a few “buckets” I find my thoughts filling: one of these is what we’ll call Telling Stories.
Telling Stories
Thinking about, and finding stories to tell, how to tell them and ways to be creative across the different areas of my life regularly takes up a lot of real estate in my brain. And so, one of my goals is to tell more stories through:
Directing: As you might know, my undergraduate degree is in theatre directing and there were a number of years around that time where work backstage was a regular part of my life. Directing for me has always been about bringing together a team of people into a wonderful collaboration of talent on and off-stage to tell a story, communicate an important message, and provide a space where an audience can come together, be entertained, and inspired through the power of storytelling. During my time in Calgary, while I’ve had many great pre-pandemic experiences performing on-stage, an area I would love to find my way back to is directing.
Once Upon a Spark: Part of the reason I started this blog was to tell the stories of folks who are living their SPARK, and in their everyday life make contributions to their communities. Key within this is that they, like so many of us have non-linear ways they’ve found their ways to careers. Working with youth, I know how important these stories are. These blog stories now live as part of the Once Upon a Spark series, and in the state our world is in, I feel even more passionate about telling these stories today. Going forward I need to navigate finding more time to bring these back into my regular blog content or through other mediums.
Telling My Story: While there are many areas where telling my story comes easily to me, the one part I find challenging is within the context of promoting myself, particularly with Spark. The communication through my blog and website of what’s important to me, what I value and what I offer comes easily. Knowing how and where to promote this work, from a marketing perspective, and to specific audiences is an area where I need to look to my network and consult their expertise.
